Horses Review – An Introduction
Since the earliest historical times – and, perhaps, back into prehistory if some ancient Spanish cave paintings do indeed show a horseman – the fates of human beings and horses have been bound together. The cultures of the Eurasian continent, from the wave-washed shores of the Atlantic to the pine-clad river valleys of Japan, have echoed since time immemorial with the sound of hoofbeats. Used for everything from a plough animal to a valued riding beast, a puller of wagons and coaches to the fierce companion of many a warrior aristocracy, the horse has been a familiar sight in many nations since antiquity.
During the European expansion of the 16th and 17th centuries, the horse was brought to every corner of the globe. Today, horses are to be found on every continent, and this noble animal has continued to capture the human imagination even if it has mostly lost its original associations with work, transport, and war.
Of course, in a few places, the horse is still used as a practical aid in day to day life – as, for example, among certain religious groups. But the human relationship with the horse continues even after its historic roles have been largely supplanted by the internal combustion engine, showing how deep the symbiosis between humans and horses has become. The presence of horses in our world enriches the natural scene, reminds us of the value of other creatures besides ourselves, and gives us a bit of living beauty to appreciate for its own sake.
Many things are needed to care properly for horses. They require enclosures so that they will not wander off and come to harm, and shelter in the form of a barn to protect them from the heat of the sun, the chill of the rain, and the icy blasts of winter. Moving them from place to place along our vehicle-based roadways requires special trailers that will keep them safe and sheltered, but still allow them light and fresh air during their journey.

What is more, actually riding them requires a whole range of specialized equipment, too. Other than for certain daring bareback riders, most of us need a saddle, bit and bridle, and stirrups to remain securely on the back of a horse at all times. Special boots and clothing can help us to remain comfortable while on horseback, prevent chafing or other injuries, and make it easier to mount and dismount. Then there are the countless accessories needed for their care, of which blankets, feed bags, and medicine dispensers are only the beginning.
The topic of horses is a fascinating one, and also a very large and far-reaching matter. To care for your horses properly and ensure that you get the most out of spending time in their company and riding them – staying safe while doing so, and avoiding any injury to them as well – you need to both learn the information gathered by others, and gain experience yourself. Educating yourself about horses is a process that never ends, as is true with most worthwhile matters. There is always something new to discover, some fresh perspective to be seen, and some new experience to be had.
The history of mankind and horses is continuing today, in the pasture, in the field, and on the racetrack. If you are already part of this exciting scene, then you know how various and rewarding it is to work with these remarkable animals. If you are waiting on the edge, preparing to plunge into the world of horses, then there is no better time than the present, when all the crucial information that you need to get started is at your fingertips thanks to the Internet.
